Canine Ancestors
"Dogs descended from wolves, so it's no surprise
that they still have an excellent sense of smell."
When you see a search dog tracking, trailing or air
scenting, these are all instinctual behaviors.
Strategies developed by wolves to find prey.
"Wolves can detect prey up to two miles away, just
like a search dog detects the smell of a lost person."
Behind the Scenes: Tuk, the larger black wolf, and Aspen, the smaller gray female,
are both from the Northern Lights Wildlife Wolf Center, in Golden, BC, Canada.
They also now have a second location in Panorama Mountain Village. Despite his
larger size, Tuk is a few years younger than Aspen and looked to her for
guidance. Bumping into the camera several times, Aspen was especially
friendly with Director Allex Michael during the shoot.
